GRDA Police Respond to Multiple Incidents on Grand, Hudson Lakes

KTUL - May 27, 2023 11:12 pm

Grand River Dam Authority Police are working on multiple incidents on Grand and Hudson Lakes this Memorial Day Weekend.

GRDA Police say a Missouri man, identified as 54-year-old Eric Petersen, died after his ATV went up a hill and overturned Friday evening in the off-road area below Pensacola Dam.

On Saturday afternoon, GRDA said an 87-year-old Kansas man died in the Honey Creek arm of Grand Lake after he fell into the water while trying to step off a boat onto a dock. Officers recovered his body just after 2 p.m. He has not been publicly identified at this time.

On Saturday evening, two women were taken to the hospital after a single-boat collison on the north end of Lake Hudson. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the crash.

Also Saturday night, GRDA officers are investigating after a boat exploded near the Check-in Bay area of Grand Lake around 8 p.m. Five people, including a 5-year-old, were taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa. This investigation is currently ongoing.

Due to these incidents over the holiday weekend, GRDA police continue to stress boating safely, smart and sober. All visitors to the water are encouraged to wear their life jacket while boating, and use common sense on the water, while watching out for other boaters. In the off-road area, GRDA also continues to stress safety, including always wearing a helmet.

If you have an emergency while on the water, call 911.
