STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) – Oklahoma State University in Tulsa plans to host the sixth annual Linking Gerontology and Geriatrics conference in September.

Barbara Speedling and Carol Ryff will be the keynote speakers for the conference entitled "Wellness: Building Capacity for Tomorrow’s Older Adult." The conference is scheduled Sept. 24-25.

Tammy Henderson, director of the conference and human development and family science associate professor, says this year’s conference will focus on the wellness of older adults, including guidelines known as Preadmission Screening and Resident Review, or PASRR.

The guidelines ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities or mental health concerns are identified through effective screening assessments so they receive appropriate care services and are placed in appropriate nursing, long-term care or other facilities.

The guidelines are a federal requirement for applicants to a Medicaid-certified nursing facility.
