Freeman Named Head Softball Coach For PCPS

J. T. Freeman has been hired as the new head softball coach for Ponca City Public Schools. A 1999 graduate of Edmond Memorial High School, he received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from OSU in 2003 and a master’s degree in education administration from SWOSU in 2015. He has spent the last 21 years in education as a teacher, coach and administrator.
J.T. has a record of 236-90 in nine seasons as a head coach. His teams have made four straight State Tournament appearances at Morrison High School (2019-2022) and appeared in three State Championship games. His team was runner-up in 2021 and State Champion in 2019 and 2022.
He has received numerous coaching honors throughout the years, including Oklahoma Coaches Association Region 2 Coach of the Year in baseball in 2013, Stillwater Newspress Area Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2022, Oklahoma Coaches Association Region 2 Coach of the Year in 2019, Oklahoma Softball Coaches Association Region 1 Coach of the Year in 2019, 2021 and 2022, District 2A-2 Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2022 and All-State Coach – Small West in 2021.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the softball program in Ponca City this fall,” said Freeman. “Our aim is not only to be successful on the field, but also to foster personal growth for each player while creating lifelong memories.”

I am excited to get to work this summer working with a great group of young ladies. I would like to thank Mr. Leaming, Mr. Turner, Mr. Parks, Mrs. Dye and the Ponca City Board of Education for giving me this opportunity to be the head softball coach at Po-Hi. Go, Lady Cats!”
J.T. is married to Jennifer, a Stillwater native and an RN at Stillwater Medical Center. He has three daughters: Tori (21), Tessa (18) and Tara (14).
