Former Tulsa County Sheriff due in court today

TULSA, Okla. (AP) – An indicted former Oklahoma sheriff is due in court to face two misdemeanor counts issued by grand jurors who investigated his agency after a volunteer deputy fatally shot an unarmed man.

Stanley Glanz, who resigned as Tulsa County sheriff Nov. 1, is due in court Tuesday. Grand jurors lodged two accusations, including one that said he failed to release documents from an internal investigation that questioned the training of the deputy, Robert Bates.

Glanz’s lawyer, Scott Wood, said last month he intends to plead not guilty.

Bates, one of Glanz’s close friends, is charged with second-degree manslaughter in the April shooting. Bates has pleaded not guilty and resigned from the agency.

Prosecutors have yet to lodge formal charges in court records but could do so before Tuesday’s hearing.
