OSU Athletics - May 31, 2022 6:36 am
STILLWATER, Oklahoma –
The No. 7 national seed, Oklahoma State hosts Arkansas, Grand Canyon and Missouri State in the NCAA Baseball Stillwater Regional at O’Brate Stadium from June 3-6.
The 2022 NCAA Stillwater Regional is the first at O’Brate Stadium, which opened in 2021 and has a capacity of 8,000. The Cowboys rank seventh in the NCAA in average home attendance this season at 5,498 fans per game.
OSU is 39-20 on the season and makes the 47th NCAA Regional appearance in program history, the fourth most all time. This marks the Cowboys’ ninth consecutive Regional berth under Josh Holliday. This season also marks the fourth time under Holliday that the Cowboys are a Regional host, with the previous times in 2014, 2015 and 2019 (hosted in Oklahoma City due to unplayable field conditions in Stillwater).
Arkansas (38-18 overall) tied for second in the Southeastern Conference West Division this year and secured an at-large bid into the NCAA field.
Winners of four of the last five Western Athletic Conference regular season titles and coached by former big-leaguer Andy Stankiewicz, Grand Canyon (41-19 overall) won the WAC Western Division this year but lost in the conference tournament to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA field.
Missouri State (30-27 overall) won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament to secure the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA field.
The Stillwater regional is one of 16 held across the country this weekend, each of which involves four teams.
The winner of the Stillwater Regional takes on the winner of the Chapel Hill regional that includes North Carolina, Georgia, VCU and Hofstra in a best-of-three super regional the following weekend with a spot in the College World Series on the line. OSU has five Super Regional appearances in its history (1999, 2007, 2014, 2016 and 2019) and as the No. 7 national seed, the Cowboys would be a Super Regional host next weekend if it advances through the regional round.
