SCHEDULE + DETAILS
DATE: July 11th 2026
LOCATION: This trip will be hosted at the Kaw Lake Spillway.
Meet at the East Side boat dock
TIME: Arrive at 7 AM
AGE OF YOUTH: Youth 18 and younger. Keep in mind, these fish get big.
NUMBER OF Fishers: 50 youth.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: All youth will need an Oklahoma Paddlefish permit
Any youth over 17 will need an Oklahoma Fishing License
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Mentors will provide all the tackle and equipment needed for the day! Youth participants will arrive and start the event with a safety briefing and the plans for the day. After the briefing, the youth will split into groups with our volunteer mentors and head out for a fun day on the water.
This event is about a lot more than just catching fish. Youth will get the chance to learn fishing techniques, fish identification, water safety, outdoor ethics, fish cleaning, and other valuable outdoor skills from experienced mentors who love sharing their knowledge and helping kids build confidence in the outdoors.
Game Wardens and Fisheries Biologists may also attend to talk with participants about Paddlefish biology, fisheries management, and conservation efforts. This gives youth a great opportunity to learn directly from the professionals who help protect and manage our fisheries.
After the safety briefing and group assignments, everyone will travel to the fishing location where anglers will fish with their mentors until they tag out or decide they are done fishing for the day. Each angler may catch and release as many Paddlefish as they want, but state regulations allow participants to keep only one fish. Once an angler tags a fish, their fishing day is complete. We will fish until approximately noon.
Lunch will be provided for all youth participants and volunteers.
