200 S. 6th St., Ponca City, OK 74601
The Chancel Choir of the Music Ministry of First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church will present the 23rd annual Meet the Composer Concert on Sunday, March 1st at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary, located at 200 S. 6th Street in Ponca City. Following a weekend of rehearsals with a 50-member ecumenical community choir, internationally renowned composer and guest conductor Craig Courtney will lead this special concert, which is open to the public.
Courtney, a celebrated composer of sacred music and staff composer and editor at Beckenhorst Press, has published more than 400 choral works and earned international recognition for his contributions to church music. The concert will feature the combined voices of the Chancel Choir and community singers, accompanied by a brass quartet, string quartet, and accomplished pianist John Carleton.
A highlight of the weekend is Courtney’s newly composed piece, How Lovely, written to celebrate the union of the two churches. Featuring lyrics by Pamela Stewart based on Psalm 133, the piece reflects themes of unity and harmony and will be performed as part of this inspiring afternoon of music.
The community is invited to attend this unique opportunity to experience world-class sacred choral music right here in Ponca City.
