‘Drug Store’ Returns

Ponca City Public Schoolss - March 24, 2022 9:53 am

“Drug Store 2022” was presented to West Middle School sixth-graders on Tuesday. It was presented to seventh graders on Wednesday.
The program is an interactive educational drama utilizing community professionals to dramatically recreate scenes based on true life drug abuse.
Scenes include an arrest on drug charges, a court appearance and sentencing, a counseling session, a drug overdose resulting in a fatal trip to the emergency room and a funeral.
“Unlike most performances, entertaining the audience is not the goal of Drug Store 2022,” said Brian Hermanson, Kay/Noble County District Attorney. “Our intent is to take area students on a journey which will teach them the deadly truth about drug abuse. I see first-hand the effects of drug use in our communities.”
Drug Store 2022 is taking place this week during regular school hours at Connect Church. The program will be presented to 1,700 fifth through seventh-grade students from Ponca City Public Schools, private schools and other public schools in the surrounding area.
United Way of Ponca City and many local professionals, sponsors and volunteers come together for this event.
