In the first round of the Big 12 conference soccer tournament, the regular season champion Oklahoma State Cowgirls beat the Oklahoma Sooners 2-1 at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri.

OU started the scoring with a terrific corner kick from Megan Reilly that Erika Middleton scored in the 41st minute. The goal was Middleton’s first of the season and put the Sooners’ in the drivers seat for the match.

OSU responded in the second half with better movement according to head coach Colin Carmichael and it shifted the match’s momentum into the favor of the Cowgirls.

The Pokes’ second half featured much more pressure offensively and the Cowgirls turned it into a pair of goals.

The first came on the leg of junior transfer Gabriella Coleman after a great move from freshman Olyvia Dowell and a nice pass from Charme Morgan. Coleman’s shot flew into the bottom left corner to tie the match.

The momentum shifted completely to OSU from that point on and senior captain Jaci Jones finished off the comeback with a goal that deflected off a Sooner defender before looping into the net. The Cowgirl defense closed the match out to move on to the next round.

Up next for OSU will be Kansas on Friday night. They won the regular season match against the Jayhawks 5-2 at Neal Patterson Stadium.

On the other side of the bracket, Texas Tech will play TCU on Friday. The Championship match will be played Sunday afternoon.

The Sooners will have to wait and hope for some good luck to get into the NCAA Tournament.
