Construction Beginning on I-35, I-240 Expected to Last Until 2025

KOKH - June 6, 2023 6:34 am

The next phase of construction on the I-35/I-240 interchange is set to begin on Monday, June 5.

The phase of construction is expected to span a total of two years and will include:

  • A new turnaround at 59th St.
  • Rehabilitation of Pole Rd.
  • Rehabilitating pavement on I-240 frontage roads
  • Replacing railroad bridge of I-240
  • Construction of new northbound I-35 to eastbound I-240 connection ramp

Drivers should expect lane and ramp closures throughout the two-year project, full weekend closures of I-240, as well as increased traffic congestion in the area, especially during peak travel times.

While work is scheduled to begin on June 5, there were intermittent lane closures on I-240 between Santa Fe Ave. and Bryant Ave. on May 30 and May 31 for sign installation.

Due to the construction, drivers are encouraged to locate alternate routes or plan to add additional travel time to their commute. Drivers can use I-40 as an alternate route, or use the Drive Oklahoma app to find other alternate routes.

This marks the third out of six phases, with the third phase estimated to be completed in 2025. The remaining three phases are tentatively scheduled to begin in 2025.
