Commissioners hear update on Senior Center Food Program

Ponca City Now - July 2, 2019 11:56 am

A group of senior citizens lined the walls of the Commission Chamber at City Hall Monday afternoon as the commission heard an update on the Senior Center Food Program.

Parks and Recreation Director Eric Newell and Senior Center Programming Specialist Marie Trenary talked about ways they would like to improve the quality of meals and reliability of service to seniors, as well as conflicts with the WheatHeart Nutrition Program.

Several of the seniors who attend the center for lunches also talked about the need for improvements in the program.

A preliminary plan for the center to take over the feeding program was discussed, with prices roughly the same as what seniors pay at this time.

Alliance Health provides meals to the center on Fridays, which all those attending praised.
