Calling all grill masters

Ponca City Now - March 4, 2014 1:05 pm

The Ponca City Leadership Class is asking you to cook up your best burger.

They are currently looking for teams to participate in their Battle of the Burger: The Cook to Off Hunger.

Lisa Reed with the Ponca City Leadership class says it’s $35 to register a team.

“We are really letting them chose that, but most will have between four and five," Reed said. "We’re kind of basing it off the chili cook-off, if that makes any sense.”

Each team must cook 30 pounds of meat, and 20 pounds of ground beef and buns will be provided to each team.

Teams are responsible for the rest of its supplies; grills, toppings, decorations, etc.

The categories are the all-American burger, specialty burger and peoples choice.

Teams have until April 1 to register and the event is April 26 .

Teams will be required to be at Lake Ponca that morning at 7.

To register either call the chamber at 765-4400 or email them at [email protected]

If grilling burgers isn’t your thing, you can still get involved by becoming a sponsor.

Sponsorship packages cost between $1,000 and $100.

Reed said all the proceeds benefit the Mission.

" What we are trying to do, is they are in need of a commercial dishwasher that is an excess of $12,000," Reed said. "They have a portion of that already collected, but we are trying to get the other half supplied for them.

Public tasting kits will be on sale for $5 next month.

There will be beer, soda and water concessions.
