Bracing For More Winter Weather: OG&E Ready to Tackle Forecasted Storms and Potential Outages

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — OG&E said it is prepared for winter weather expected over the next week.

“High winds, rain and potential light snow in some areas are forecasted across our service area over the next few days,” OG&E wrote on X. “Our crews are prepared to respond as quickly and safely as possible.”

A deep freeze is expected to last several days, the first deep freeze for Oklahoma City since a debilitating winter storm in February 2021.

Rolling outages occurred during that storm.

Southwest Power Pool, the power grid operator for most of Oklahoma and the OKC metro, issued a Resource Advisory effective starting Sunday morning. The Resource Advisory is expected to last through midnight Tuesday, January 16th.

Resource Advisories do not require the public to conserve energy, but are issued to raise awareness of potential threats to the power grid. The Resource Advisory for Sunday through Tuesday is being declared due to high peak loads due to the cold temperatures.

Low variable energy resources to help power the grid, like solar and wind power, are expected during those days as well.
