BBB Warns Of Holiday Scams To Avoid This Year

Beverly Cantrell - November 25, 2021 9:09 am

There is a list of 12-holiday scams this year, and almost all of them can happen right through your phone.

But what the Better Business Bureau wants you to know is to stay safe on social media.

“Make sure you are not just clicking on random social media ads for gifts you see. Make sure you know the company. The ad is reputable, and you know the website you are clicking through to,” said Alison Abbott with the Better Business Bureau of Central Oklahoma.

These scams range from people selling puppies, low or ridiculously priced luxury goods from jewelry, clothing, and electronics.

The Better Business Bureau says to stay away from anything that seems way too good to be true.

With more shoppers buying things online, they also want you to be aware of fake shipping notifications.

Scammers will send you phishing emails with links inside that may allow unwanted access to your private information.

Unfortunately, some people will be out there acting like they are a part of a wonderful charity.

The BBB says avoid donations that have to happen right then charities will accept your gift any time.

There are daily tips on the Better Business Bureau’s social media channels, find them @BBBCentralOK.
