Stillwater Police say that a mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint on March 4th.

They say the suspect pointed a gun at a mail carrier while he was inside of the mail room at a Stillwater apartment complex, and demanded his keys.

“That mail carrier with our local post office, was delivering mail to that facility, while he was inside the mailroom, a black male suspect entered the room… held him at gunpoint, told them to give him his keys and then that’s whenever the mail carrier complied and gave him the keys,” said Lt. Law with the Stillwater Police Department.

Stillwater police say this is the first time something like this has happened in the area.

“The keys that he took… are the keys that are kind of just to any of them lock mailboxes within the area,” Law said.

The Stillwater Police are working in conjunction with the US Postal Inspectors Office on the investigation.

“They’ve actually just released a reward of a $50,000 reward for anything leading up to this suspects information on the suspect in this case,” said Law.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, around 5’7 – 5’9 feet tall, in his early 20’s.

They say he was wearing black clothing and a ski mask.

The vehicle of interest is a late model Toyota Corolla with visible damage to the passenger side.

Police warn people in the area to be cautious with their mail.

“Be more mindful of where you put your mail at,” Law said, “Now (you) might go to the post office if you have something very important that needs to be dropped off.”

The US Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect involved.

If you have any information, you can call the US Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455, or call the Stillwater Police tipline at 405-533-8477.
