Arrest made in Tonkawa High School mass shooting plot

On 12/11/2016, investigators of the Tonkawa Police Department and the 8th District Attorney’s- Major Crimes Unit received a tip in regards to a possible Mass Shooting Plot against the Tonkawa High School in Tonkawa, OK. Investigators worked diligently to validate the threat’s credibility. During the course of the investigation, officials learned the identity of a 13-year old juvenile female suspect that had, in fact, made threats towards the Tonkawa High School and specific students who attend the school.
In cooperation with the Tonkawa Police Department, the 8th District Attorney’s Office, and the Kay County Sheriffs Department, a Search Warrant was executed on Sunday, 12/11/2016, at the female suspect’s residence where weapons, ammunition, personal writings of the suspect, and various other personal effects relevant to the case were taken into possession. The female suspect was arrested and taken into custody. She was charged with Threats to Perform Acts of Violence (FEL) and is now in the custody of a juvenile detention facility. Due to the fact that the suspect is a juvenile, her name cannot be released at this time. The 8th District Court and The Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs will hear the matter.
Although this investigation is ongoing, Case Agents/Officers allege that the suspect was the sole actor in the Tonkawa High School Attack plot. Investigators have worked, very closely, with Tonkawa High School officials and teachers. All children [and parent(s) of] who were believed to be possible targets of the alleged attack have been notified and assured of the suspect’s custody status. Nonetheless, Investigators have assured the High School to remain vigilant. High School officials have reassured the community that protocols have been put in place and their school, it’s faculty, and student body are completely safe as it is their highest priority.
