The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City woman Sunday on an assault charge after she allegedly brandished a butcher’s knife.

Nisha Renee Meza, 38, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and battery-domestic violence. She was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $4,500 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. Meza since has posted bond and been released.

Officers were dispatched Sunday to the Arkansas City Police Department regarding a possible battery offense. They interviewed the victim, who said she had been in an argument with her daughter.

During the argument, the victim said her daughter, identified as Meza, had struck her in the face.

The argument later escalated to the point where Meza brandished the knife, putting the victim in fear for her safety, she told police.
