New school zone installed on Hartford Avenue

Ponca City Now - August 14, 2015 9:40 am

A new 20 mph school zone has been installed on Hartford Avenue between Seventh Street and Little Lane for the 2015-16 school year. The new school zone includes a crosswalk on Hartford at Gibson Place and is necessary due to the remodeling of Trout School.

Trout students have been moved to Washington School this year during the remodeling project. The Trout school district extends into the neighborhoods north and east of Hartford and Gibson so those students are within walking distance to Washington School.

The Hartford school zone had been in place for Washington School for many years but was removed in 2011 after Washington was closed as a permanent elementary school. The resurrected school zone will be an adjustment for regular users of Hartford Avenue who have become accustomed to the 35 mph speed limit. Drivers should exercise due vigilance and caution at this new school zone and at all school zones in Ponca City.

The 20 mph school speed limit will be in effect from 7:30 a.m.to 8:30 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The school zone will be removed after the end of the 2015-16 school year.
