KawFest postponed to July

Ponca City Now - May 29, 2015 1:05 pm

Rain, rain and more rain, leading to flooding at Kaw Lake, has resulted in the rescheduling of the annual KawFest from June 20 to Saturday, July 11 at Sandy Beach.

In conjunction with KawFest, the Miss Kaw Lake Pageant has been rescheduled to Friday evening, July 10 at the Kaw City Community Center.

"KawFest is traditionally held the third Saturday in June,” said KawFest Chairman Natascha Holloway. “However, right now Sandy Beach is under water and the Corps anticipates it could be closed until late June or early July. Then there will be a period of clean-up and repair.”

KawFest includes a volleyball competition, pork cook-off, kids’ games and live music on the beach.

Groups will now have more time to form their volleyball and pork cook-off teams, KawFest event coordinator Vanessa Forselius said. Entry forms can be obtained by calling the Kaw Lake Association at 580-762-9494 or e-mailing [email protected] .

This year is was decided to have the Miss Kaw Lake Pageant the evening prior to KawFest, with the crowning at KawFest, so it will take place Friday evening, July 10, pageant chair Ca’Trina Rathbun said.
