Gravestone restoration workshops set in Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) – The Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism division and Preservation Oklahoma are partnering next month to teach people how to restore historical etchings in gravestones.

The gravestone conservation workshops are May 7-8 at the Tahlequah Public Cemetery. The cost is $45.

Professional gravestone and masonry conservator Jonathan Appell will lead the class and cover topics on how to reset stones, repair fragmented stones, repoint and clean masonry and use infill material and appropriate repair materials.

Tools and most materials will be provided.
