Lawton police arrested 21-year-old Kelly Lea Fairchild and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Gregory Scott Miller on Thursday in connection with the death of Fairchild’s 18-month-old son.

Fairchild was charged with one count of child neglect and Miller was charged with first-degree murder.

The couple live in Frederick.

On Feb. 27, the Frederick Police Department requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in investigating the suspicious death.

The child’s mother and her boyfriend took the boy to a hospital in Frederick because the child was unresponsive. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital after medical personnel tried for an hour to resuscitate him.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined the child had a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma. He also had a bruise inside his lip, bruises on his forehead, bruises on the back of his head, and a bruised right ear.

Based upon the findings of the autopsy, an OSBI agent filed a warrant for the arrest of Fairchild and Miller.

The OSBI stated Miller told the agent he accidently stepped on the child the night the boy was taken to the hospital.

Fairchild told the agent the child was lethargic and slept most of the day Thursday, a day before his death, the OSBI said.
