Just days after the field storm some are now calling the Bedlam after Bedlam, Boone Pickens Stadium sits quiet in Stillwater.

Tuesday, bodycam footage sheds new light on the chaos after the bedlam game. One fan was rushed to the hospital following the on-field surge.

Officials say the incident forced a deputy to pull out his taser. Rockford Brown with the Payne County Sheriff’s Office explains the moments leading up to a social media video showing a deputy tasing a fan.

“Of course, when any individual gets one glimpse in a video circulated on social media, they could infer the deputy was unreasonable in his force,” Brown said.

The Sheriff’s Office shared body camera footage that details the moments before the tasing incident seen on social media. “A person jumps up onto the goalposts,” Brown said, describing the body camera footage. “When they fell down, they struck a young lady.”

The 19-year-old woman was hit in the head and she dropped to the ground immediately, as seen in the video. Brown says the deputy’s first priority was to keep fans off the goalposts long enough to move her. “She was right under the goalposts and if it were to fall it would’ve caused serious injury or death to her in that area,” he explained.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, she was life-flighted to a hospital in Tulsa. “When taken in the context of the entire matter and you have someone who literally had a traumatic brain injury,” Brown said. “Deputy Bowen used very reasonable force to get people off the goalposts at the time there was a victim on the ground.”

According to Brown, the Sheriff’s Office commends the actions of its deputies at the Bedlam game.

The victim’s family says she’s been released from the hospital and will make a full recovery.
