Fugitive wanted for Garvin County shooting that injured a deputy found dead

KOKH - October 10, 2023 3:36 pm

Suspect Kameron Jenkins found dead.

The fugitive wanted for shooting a Cleveland County deputy during an incident that left an innocent bystander fatally wounded has been found dead.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), after a review of all available intelligence, OHP, in conjunction with the US Marshals, decided a secondary grid search of the area was warranted.

The OHP Emergency Response and Tactical Team found a body matching the description of the suspect involved in the shooting.

Officials said Jenkins was found deceased.

OHP said the scene will be turned over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) to complete its investigation.

OSBI said they do not know if the initial shooting killed Jenkins.

On Wednesday, Jenkins allegedly shot Deputy Sean Steadman of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) in the chin during a shoot-out battle after an attempted traffic stop in Garvin County, leaving a bystander dead.

Steadman is expected to make a full recovery.

Gwaun Frierson, the innocent bystander, was a passenger in a dump truck traveling north on Interstate 35 just south of Exit 60 when he was struck and killed by a stray bullet.

There was a $11,000 reward for information that could lead to capturing Jenkins, who was considered armed and dangerous.

For this shooting incident, Jenkins would have been facing four counts, including shooting with the intent to kill and felony murder.

Jenkins was 25 years old.

OSBI led the search for the fugitive with the help of the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma City Police Department, the US Marshals, and CCSO.

This is a developing story and will updated as information becomes available.
