Community Health Foundation of Kay County Hosting Educational Event About Vaping and Marijuana Use in Adolescents August 8

Ponca City-
One in four Oklahoma high school students has used a vape or e-cigarette in the last 30 days. That means if your child hasn’t used a vape, one of their friends has.
99% of all vapes contain nicotine as well as toxic aerosols. These substances are highly addictive and can not only cause cancer, but can impair adolescent brain development, affecting both memory and concentration. Nicotine harms the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control.
When asked what he wished parents knew about vape and marijuana use in their teenagers, Chief Don Bohon of the Ponca City Police Department said, “Your kids are lying to you. They are surrounded by vapes and inundated with it every day.”
On Tuesday, August 8, a FREE parent educational event for parents and guardians in Kay County will be held at Pioneer Technology Center Conference Center at 2101 N. Ash beginning at 6:30 pm.
There will be three speakers who are experts in their fields to share all of the relevant information parents need to talk to their children about vaping and marijuana, as well as how to identify if their child is using one of these substances, what vapes and marijuana paraphernalia actually look like, and resources on how to quit will also be discussed.
Registration is encouraged, but not required: bit.ly/chfparentnight
All parents and guardians in Kay County, even if your child is not a teenager are invited. It’s not too early to start discussing these topics now with your child.
Three $100 Walmart gift cards will be door prizes for attendees.
