City of Ponca City -There was an incident earlier this morning at Ponca City High School with a student who was very upset, and was disturbing classrooms looking for a family member.

The site administrators chose to do a lockdown to avoid this issue becoming bigger than it was.

The student did not have any weapons, and the School Resource Officer was able to help resolve the situation peacefully, and the student is with family now.

Ponca City Public School statement below:

Because we are very diligent regarding safety concerns, a lockdown was in place this morning at Ponca City High School. A distraught student was trying to disrupt classes, left the school grounds and tried returning. Out of an abundance of caution, school administrators locked the school down to prevent any further disruptions. No weapons were involved. The parent is now with the child and everyone is safe.
