PERRY, Okla. (AP) – At least four earthquakes have been recorded outside Perry in Noble County ranging in intensity from magnitude 2.8 to magnitude 3.1.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quakes were recorded on Tuesday within just three hours of each other. The first, a magnitude 3.1 temblor, occurred at 9:45 a.m. about two miles southeast of Perry at a depth of about three miles.

The USGS says it was followed by two 2.8 magnitude quakes and a 2.9 magnitude quake in essentially the same area and depth in north central Oklahoma. The quakes occurred at 11:50 a.m., 12:05 p.m. and 12:27 p.m.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and damage is not likely in quakes below magnitude 4.0.
