Oklahoma Legislature overrides some vetoes, plans return

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Legislature has adjourned the 2022 regular session, but plans to return next month to discuss more tax relief.

The House and Senate spent the last day of the session overriding several of Gov. Kevin Stitt’s vetoes. However, the Legislature did not override the Governor’s veto of several key pieces of its budget agreement.

As a result, a plan to give Oklahoma taxpayers one-time cash rebates in December will not become law. Lawmakers also did not override Stitt’s veto of a bill to eliminate the state sales tax on motor vehicle purchases.

The Governor wants lawmakers to return in a special session next month to consider cutting the state’s tax on groceries and individual income.
