Arkansas City man injured in accident

A 19-year-old man was injured in a one-vehicle accident Thursday morning on Ferguson Road and Washunga Bay Road in Kay County.

Jesus Varela, of Arkansas City, Kan., was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima eastbound on Ferguson at 7:17 a.m. Thursday and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the roadway to the right and rolled one and a half times, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Varela was transported to Ponca City Medical Center by Ponca City EMS. He was admitted in fair condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

There were no passengers in the car, according the the Highway Patrol’s report. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
