Fatality Collision Occurred Saturday Morning

A fatality collision occurred Saturday November 27th at approximately 7:51 am at the intersection of East Kildare Road and North Prentice Road about 1.8 miles east of Kildare in Kay County.

A 2005 Chevrolet Pickup driven by Kennisue J. Hopkins, age 51 of Newkirk was northbound and collided with an eastbound 2016 Cadillac Escalade driven by Raegan N. Cannon, age 21 of Blackwell as they both approached the intersection. Hopkins was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.

Cannon was transported by Air-Evac to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, and admitted in stable condition with head, arm, leg, trunk external and trunk internal injuries.

A passenger in Cannons vehicle, Maggie Brown, 21 of Blackwell, was transported by Medi-Flight to ST Francis in Tulsa and admitted in stable condition with head, trunk external and leg Injuries.

Hopkins was northbound on Prentice Rd. while Cannon was eastbound on Kildare Rd.  As both vehicles approached the intersection, Hopkins failed to yield from a stop sign, striking Browns vehicle, departed the roadway to the right, striking a bridge railing, a traffic sign and came to rest on the north side of Kildare Rd, caught fire and became fully engulfed. Hopkins was pinned approximately 6 hours and extricated by Newkirk Fire Department.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Chris Vaughan of the Noble/Kay County Detachment of Troop K and assisted by Trooper Matt Stacy, Traffic Homicide Unit.  Also assisting were the Kay County Sheriff’s Office, Kildare Police Department, Newkirk Police Department, Newkirk Fire Department/EMS  and Ponca City Fire Department/EMS. ‘This report is based upon the trooper’s investigation of this collision.
