Coweta Public Schools Cancels Monday Classes Due To Severe Weather Damage

COWETA, Oklahoma –

Coweta Public Schools has canceled classes on Monday, October 11 due to the impact of severe weather that struck Coweta on Sunday evening.

According to the district’s website, there will be no virtual or in-person options available to any CPS students.

School officials are expected to survey the damage left behind by Sunday’s storms.

It is currently unclear if classes will resume on Tuesday.

A possible tornado moved through the town of Coweta on Sunday night.

News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer and News On 6 Storm Tracker Von Castor tracked the storm at about 10:45 p.m.

Castor said he saw a tornado and said that it hit Coweta High School, which is located at 14705 S. 305th E Ave.

According to Coweta Police Chief Mike Bell, the storm ripped through a portion of town starting at Coweta Heritage Intermediate Grade Center and went towards Coweta High School before hitting a gas station near East Highway 51 and South 305th East Avenue.

Police say the Coweta Water-Sewer Department is without power at this time as a result of the storm. It is currently unclear how the outage will impact city services.
