MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKRC) – Vice President JD Vance is heading back to his hometown of Middletown, Ohio on Friday, Aug. 21.
He is expected to speak at the Cleveland-Cliffs Middletown Works steel plant to highlight the Trump administration’s economic agenda. No other information was released.
The company, formerly known as AK Steel, is currently pushing for a major modernization project at the plant.
Cleveland-Cliffs says the project could create up to 1,500 jobs during construction but the work still needs regulatory approval.

- Taft Road Lane
- Heatherhill Lane
- Westbound Riverside Drive between Leblond Recreation Center and Collins Avenue (due to ongoing construction)
Drivers should use Torrence Parkway, Madison Road and Woodburn Avenue as alternate routes.
Residents living inside the closure zone will still have access through marked security checkpoints located at:
- William Howard Taft Road and Torrence Parkway
- William Howard Taft Road and East McMillan Street
- Pedestrian entry only: Collins Avenue and Gladstone Avenue
Officials say residents should expect law enforcement presence and possible delays at checkpoints. Delivery trucks and commercial service vehicles will also be allowed through the checkpoints.
