PONCA CITY – 96 percent of parents and caregivers believe their child safety seats are installed correctly, but NHTSA research shows that 7 out of 10 children are improperly restrained, putting them at risk for serious injury or death in a crash. To find out if your child is at risk, the Kay County Health Department is hosting a Child Passenger Safety Event September 25 at the Kay County Health Department, 433 Fairview, in Ponca City. This event is in conjunction with the United Way of North Central Oklahoma’s “Day of Caring.”
Nationally certified technicians will be on-site to teach parents and caregivers how to properly install a car seat.
Amanda Beaston, Community Health Worker and Child Passenger Safety technician, Kay County Health Department, said: “We are excited to offer this event to the residents of Kay County. We want anyone who is using a car seat to know how to properly use that device. It takes about 20 minutes to go through the process. If you have a child in your life that uses a car seat, then this event is for you.”
There is a limited number of car seats available for those who qualify. Appointments are not necessary but encouraged. To make an appointment, call the Kay County Health Department at (580) 762-1641.
