Oklahoma families preparing for the new school year should make sure their children’s required immunizations are up to date before classes begin.
Under Oklahoma law, children attending school or licensed child care must provide proof of immunization or have an approved exemption on file before attending classes. Children who have started the required vaccine schedule may attend school while completing remaining doses if they stay on schedule.
What Parents Should Know
- Children ages 2 months and older must have immunization records or an approved exemption before attending school or child care.
- Vaccine series do not need to restart if a dose is late.

Recommended Vaccines (Not Required)
The Oklahoma State Department of Health recommends annual flu vaccines for students of all ages.
The department also recommends meningococcal ACWY and MenB vaccines for students between 7th and 12th grade, although they are not required for school attendance.
Exemptions
Oklahoma law allows exemptions for medical, religious, and personal reasons. Parents seeking an exemption must complete the required certification process before school begins.
