Blackwell Man Air Evac’d to Wesley Hospital in Wichita

A personal injury collision occurred on Tuesday, January 19th, just after 8 a.m. on Oklahoma State Highway 11, 1/2 mile west of Blackwell.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, a 2007 Ford pickup driven by Mathew Farney, age 41, of Blackwell, was eastbound on SH11 when it departed the roadway to the right for an unknown reason, striking a culvert. Farney’s vehicle re-entered the roadway where it collided with a second vehicle being driving by 27-year-old Austin Herod, of Medford.

Herod was transported by Blackwell EMS to Blackwell Hospital where he was treated and released.

Farney was transported by Air Evac to Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas where he was admitted in critical condition with head trunk internal injuries.

Farney was pinned in his vehicle for approximately 15 minutes before he was extricated by Blackwell Fire.

The OHP is attributing the collision to driver inattention.
