With one major deadline behind us, our work is shifting to the next stage.
Last week, Senate bills and Senate joint resolutions had to advance through House subcommittees. Now, those measures move to oversight committees, where they must be heard before heading to the House floor ahead of the next major deadline in early May.
This is the point in session where things start moving quickly. We’re reviewing a large number of Senate bills while continuing work on the state budget.
A big focus this year remains education. Oklahoma has made significant investments over the past several years, and we’re continuing that work while also looking at way to improve results for students. That includes supporting teachers, strengthening early literacy efforts and making sure families have access to options that best fit their child’s needs.
It’s always good to have people from back home at the Capitol, and this week I had the chance to visit with members of the American Farmers and Ranchers organization along with a group of FFA students from Tonkawa who came to observe the legislative process. These young leaders shared what’s going on in their lives and I appreciate them taking the time to stop by.
This week we also joined with our colleagues in the Senate for a joint session to recognize the Oklahoma National Guard and their long history of service to our state and nation. The recognition highlighted the Guard’s role not only in national defense but also in responding to emergencies here at home, and it was a meaningful reminder of the men and women who continue to serve our communities every day. It was an honor to celebrate them in joint session.
If there is an issue on your mind or a concern affecting your family or business, I want to know about it. You can reach me at [email protected] or call my office at (405) 557-7355. I am honored to serve you and will keep working every day to move our state in the right direction.
