OKLAHOMA CITY –
Legislative leaders at the Oklahoma State Capitol have reached a $12.7 billion state budget agreement, representing a nearly 1.3% increase from 2025 while boosting funding for education.
The budget includes an additional $230 million for education, with $80 million dedicated to reading and math programs and another $85 million allocated for teacher pay raises.
State leaders said the agreement came during a tight budget year following recent tax cuts, forcing lawmakers to weigh priorities as they plan for the state’s long-term financial stability.
“There’s a lot of good ideas,” Gov. Kevin Stitt said. “As leaders, we have to make the hard decisions and say no sometimes.”
With the agreement in place, lawmakers are expected to begin drafting the official budget bills. Voting on the measures is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
