WASHINGTON (TNND) — Vice President J.D. Vance won a straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) about the GOP presidential nominee for 2028.
The poll showed that Vance got 53% of the vote from those who attended the conference.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio got 35%, while Donald Trump Jr. and Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis both got 2%, according to The Hill newspaper.
Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Texas Sen. Cruz, Gov. Greg Abbott and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard got 1%.
Last year, Vance got 61% of the CPAC straw poll where about 1,000 people were polled.
CPAC was held in Texas this year and neither President Donald Trump or Vance attended this year.
Last week, the CPAC crowd erupted into applause when Chairman Matt Schlapp asked about impeachment hearings.
As of now, Democrats have not made any plans to impeach Trump. During the president’s first term, he was impeached twice.
Some Democrats have called for impeaching Trump over the Iran war, but they don’t have the majority in the House or Senate.
It is possible they could retake Congress after the 2026 midterms. Trump currently has a 38% approval rating, according to The Economist.
