The plane was on the ground when the strike happened, and images of the plane on Facebook identify the E-3 as OK 81-0005, according to The Oklahoman.
The Oklahoman also reported that it is not known if any Oklahoma-based crews were on base at the time of the attack.
Photos of the aircraft were posted to Facebook by Force amn/nco/snco.
Redhome Aviation, an aviation photographer, posted pictures of the aircraft before the strike, identifying the E-3 as “Captain Planet.”
I am very sad to report that E-3G Sentry 81-0005 “Captain Planet” has been destroyed at Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia in a strike by Iran.
The local photographer said he served as a reservist on the aircraft at Tinker Air Force Base and had photographed the E-3 on multiple occasions.
