The Ponca City West Middle School 7th Grade Orchestra earned two superior ratings and one excellent rating (resulting in an overall superior rating) and a superior rating in sight-reading at the OSSAA District Orchestra Contest held at Edmond Santa Fe High School. Since the orchestra received superior ratings in both the stage performance and sight-reading portions of the contest, the group earned the Outstanding Achievement Award, the highest honor that can be awarded at the event.
The group performed “Sword Dance,” arranged by Bob Phillips, and “The Russian Music Box” by Soon Hee Newbold.
“I am so proud of this young group of students. They have worked hard and deserve this great achievement,” said Director Dylan Labon.
A special thank you to Paula Cochran and Katie Hauge for their help in preparing the group for contest. The orchestra also appreciates Connor Pratt for driving a school vehicle to transport instruments, and Cory Burkett and Rhonda McCormick for safely driving the buses.
