OKLAHOMA CITY –
A new report shares the impact medical marijuana has had on Oklahoma since its legalization in 2018.
The latest national survey for 2021/2022 showed that Oklahoma ranked number three in the nation for past-month marijuana use in youth. In 2017/2018, the state ranked 43.
The report also showed that since legalizing medical marijuana in the state, youth’s past-month marijuana use increased by 44%, as compared to the four-year average prior to legalization.
Youth use rates have also increased by 73% since 2018.
The report said that 56% of 12th graders and 43% of 10th graders perceived marijuana “sort of easy,” or “very easy” to obtain.
By grade level, the percent of students who felt there was a slight or no risk involved with using marijuana:
- 59% of 12th graders
- 48% of 10th graders
- 37% of 8th graders
- 30% of 6th graders
