WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 12-2-20 as of 7 a.m.

Mike Seals - December 2, 2020 8:02 am

Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews started salt and sand operation early this morning in northwest Oklahoma and the Panhandle due to slick bridges and roads. Light to heavy snow is impacting travel in Cimarron, Ellis, Harper and Woodward counties.

Drivers should be alert to slick conditions and are encouraged to delay travel if possible in these areas. Crews will continue round-the-clock salt/sand and plowing operations until highways are clear.

View www.okroads.org for a map of current closures and snowplow cameras to check conditions before traveling.

REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:

  • Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
  • Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
  • Be aware of “black ice,” which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
  • Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
