CANDIDATE FILING BEGINS APRIL 1

Statewide election activity officially begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday April 1, 2026, when the candidate filing period opens, the Secretary of the Kay County Election Board said.
Candidates for state offices file with the State Election Board. Candidates for county offices file with the Secretary of the County Election Board.
Kay County Election Board Secretary Carol Leaming said the following offices are expected to be filled this year.
Federal offices: U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative
State offices: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Treasurer, Supt. Of Public Instruction, State Auditor and Inspector, Commissioner of Labor, State Insurance Commissioner, Corporation Commissioner (office currently held by Todd Heitt), District Attorney District 8.
Legislative Offices: State Senate District 10 (even numbered districts) .
 State House of Representatives District 37.
Judicial: Judges of the Supreme Court District 1, District 6, District 9.
Judges of the Court of Criminal Appeals: District 2, District 3.
Judges of the Court of Civil Appeals: District 1 Office 1, District 1 Office 2, District 2 Office 1, District 2 Office 2,
District Judge:  District 8 Office 1.
Associate District Judge: Kay County
County Offices: County Treasurer, County Assessor, County Commissioner District #1, County Commissioner District #3.
Filing forms and information for county offices may be obtained by contacting the Kay County Election Board at 580 362 2130 or [email protected] . The Kay County Election Board is located at 219 S. Main St. in Newkirk and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Filing packets for all offices are also available for download on the State Election Board’s website at oklahoma.gov/elections.
The filing period closes at 5 p.m. on Friday April 3, 2026.
