STILLWATER, Okla. – One scene down and several more to go as Stillwater High School becomes a temporary set for film crews.The movie Thirteen Folds directed by and starring actor Sean Patrick Flanery, featuring his son Charlie Flanery, takes place at the high school with a focus on wrestling.
In a city of about 50,000 people, Stillwater most recently made a large impact with its 2021 thriller “Stillwater.”
This city is about to be home to yet another movie with roots running deep in the wrestling world.
It all started with Texas-native and “Young Indiana Jones” and “The Boondock Saints” actor Sean Patrick Flanery, who now calls Stillwater home.
“On a whim, they enrolled their oldest son, Charlie, in a John Smith Wrestling Camp here in Stillwater,” said Stillwater Public Schools Public Relations Barry Fuxa.
Fuxa said this planted the seed for the movie.
He said Flanery contacted Stillwater High School wrestling coach Kyle.
“Wrote this, presented it to him and said hey would you read this,” said Fuxa.
He said from there, everyone was on board with “Thirteen Folds.”
Fuxa said it is a story about a boy who has experienced some loss in his life.He starts making personal connections when he gets to high school and gets back into wrestling.
“This movie is a love letter to not only wrestling but also to the town of Stillwater,” Flanery said.
He also added, “It’s the home of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for a reason.”
Fuxa said of the movie, “It’s got a lot of a lot of emotion, a lot of heart in it.”
He said it has also created a lot of excitement within the Stillwater community.
Fuxa said they created a press release and a video asking for extras.
“And they were scrolling through their email account with just email after email of you know, extras in the headline of people in the community that want to come out,” Fuxa said.
He also said there are economic benefits to having a film shot in your hometown.
“Helping diversify our economy and, give people who sometimes would have left the state, you know, reason to stick around and stay,” added Fuxa.
He said the next steps are to find distribution, whether the film is shown in theaters, streaming or at film festivals.
The plan is to have it completed and released by October or November of 2026.
