Oklahoma City Public Schools to return to distance learning

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City Public Schools says it is returning to distance learning for at least two weeks and canceling indoor athletics amid a continued rise in coronavirus cases.

Oklahoma health officials are reporting an increase of 1,276 confirmed new coronavirus cases and 12 additional deaths as they grapple with outbreaks at several state prisons. The latest numbers reported on Friday bring the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 82,520 and the total number of deaths to 993. It was the ninth consecutive day that new cases topped more than 1,000.

The state’s Department of Corrections lists seven prison facilities as coronavirus “hot spots.”
