WASHINGTON (TNND) — Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk said during a New York Times conference that she still supports the Second Amendment and her husband’s death was not the result of a gun problem.
“What I’ve realized through all of this is that you can have individuals that will always resort to violence,” Kirk said on Wednesday.
“And what I’m afraid of is that we are living in a day and age where they think violence is the solution to them not wanting to hear a different point of view.”
Erika’s husband Charlie Kirk was assassinated in September while doing a speaking event at Utah Valley University.
The suspect who killed Kirk is Tyler Robinson who has been charged with aggravated murder. Prosecutors in Utah are seeking the death penalty for the 22-year-old.
After Charlie’s death, Erika became the CEO of Turning Point USA, the conservative organization he founded in 2012.
“That’s not a gun problem, that’s a human — deeply human — problem. That is a soul problem, that is a mental that is a very deeper issue,” she said, according to the New York Post.
She said she wouldn’t wish what happened to her to happen to anyone.
“I wouldn’t wish upon anyone what I have been through, and I support the Second Amendment as well,” Erika said.
