TECUMSEH, Okla. –
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) called the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department Saturday morning, alerting them of the threats.
Pottawatomie County Captain Jared Strand said the Tecumseh student made the Facebook post about one month ago.
“The initial thing was that there would be a big event soon or something along that line during an interview with our investigators, he did admit that he intended to shoot up his school,” said Strand.
Strand said within six and a half hours, officers executed a search warrant and took the suspect into custody, and conducted an interview.
Strand said there was a picture the student posted to social media showing two different types of weapons in a bathroom stall.
Strand said the suspect insinuated they were taken at Tecumseh High School.
“We have not verified that was at the Tecumseh school campus yet. Our investigators are still working on to identify if that was the case or not,” said Strand.
He said the Tecumseh Police Department and the Sheriff’s office are working closely together.
Strand added, “The safety of our children is one of our number one concerns.”
He said the suspect is being held at a juvenile facility and has been charged with Terroristic Threats, Threatening for an Act of Violence, Violation of the Computer Crimes Act and Possessing and Distributing Obscene Material
Strand added there will be a heavy police presence with deputies at all campuses in Tecumseh on Monday.
On Monday, Tecumseh Public Schools announced on social media that classes would be canceled for both Monday and Tuesday.
“During the overnight hours, district administrators were made aware of new developments regarding threats against our students,” the post read. “Under the advisement of the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, we will be closing all campuses on Monday and Tuesday and will reopen on Monday following Fall Break.”
The expected date for classes to begin again is Oct. 20.
