The Osage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after seventeen cows were reported stolen from Osage Nation Ranch and more than a dozen additional cows were found dead in pen enclosures.

According to officials, the animals are thought to have been stolen between July 23 and July 27.

Osage Nation Ranch employees believe those animals were also going to be stolen, but weren’t because the thieves were scared off.

Osage LLC, the parent company for the ranch, said it is “heartbreaking and unacceptable” to have cattle die in this way and urges the public, auction houses and livestock traders to watch for cattle with the ON brand.

The company said they are looking at expanding surveillance of its 40,000-acre ranch.
