Ponca City man dies after colliding with semi truck

A young Ponca City man died early this morning after colliding with a semi truck. Brett Joseph Reedy, 23 was pinned in his truck for 61 minutes before the Hawley fire department extricated him. He was driving eastbound on Highway 11 in Grant County when he crossed the center line for an unknown reason. He immediately hit the semi, then spun 180 degrees counter clockwise and rolled a 1/4 turn before coming to a stop in the south ditch. According to a police report Reedy wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Also, Reedy’s airbags didn’t deploy.

The driver of the semi was heading west and departed the roadway to the right after the vehicles collided. His vehicle came to a stop in the north ditch. The semi driver, Lemcy Cortez, 44 was transported to Bass Hospital by Medford EMS. He was treated and released with internal and external trunk injures, as well as arm injuries.

The condition of the driver and cause of the collision are still under investigation.
