PCPS Update for April 1st, 2020

Mike Seals - April 1, 2020 10:38 pm

Shelly Arrott, Superintendent for Ponca City Public Schools issued an update for all parents and students yesterday.
In the update, the superintendent said there is a slight change to the Grab-and-Go meal pick-up procedure. Patrons now only need to pull up to the curb, tell the staff how many meals they need, and the staff will place that number of meals on a table at the curb. The staff will step back, and someone from the vehicle will need to collect the bags on the table.

She also mentioned that, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety is waiving certain driver license requirements for those under the age of 18. The Department of Public Safety will not need documentation from the school regarding enrollment and reading proficiency at this time.

Arrott reminded everyone that all public school facilities and playgrounds are closed to the public.
She also said that a Continuous Learning Guide will be posted on the District Homepage at www.pcps.us, on Thursday, April 2nd. She encouraged everyone to read the guide carefully and thoroughly prior to April 6th.

Continuous Learning Schedules and Packets will be posted on each school’s webpage on Monday, April 6th. PCPS will create a link to each school’s homepage on the District Homepage.

These schedules of continuous learning activities reflect one to two weeks of activities, beginning April 6th, depending upon the student’s grade level. There will also be options for pick-up of the schedules and packets as indicated in the Continuous Learning Guide which will be posted on April 2nd.
New schedules and packets will be posted for upcoming weeks on specific dates. Please refer to the Continuous Learning Guide that will be posted April 2nd.

Arrott stressed that all families need to be connected to Ponca City Public School System information and that they need to review all press releases posted within the COVID-19 Updates Link at www.pcps.us.

To the parents, Arrott said that Continuous Learning will look very different from traditional school learning. The focus is on the safety and well-being of the students, staff, and community. She asked for everyone to please keep an open mind and understand that every public brick-and-mortar school in the State of Oklahoma will be offering similar approaches to Continuous Learning during school closure. The Continuous Learning guide will provide all sorts of information from time frames to expectations.
