I hope this finds you and your family safe and well after the storms that have passed through our state in recent weeks. Oklahomans are resilient, and once again, we’ve seen neighbors helping neighbors.
Now that session has ended, we’re entering what’s called the interim. This is the time between legislative sessions when lawmakers take a closer look at specific policy areas through what are called interim studies. These studies are an important part of our work and help lay the groundwork for future legislation. They allow us to gather information, hear from experts and the public and make better-informed decisions when session starts again in February.
I had the pleasure of hosting a small group of constituents at the Capitol for a guided tour and conversation. After we walked through the building together, we gathered in one of the committee rooms for some fellowship and a candid Q&A. It was a great opportunity to connect on a personal level, and I appreciated the thoughtful questions and genuine interest in the work we do here.
As a freshman legislator, I shared what it’s been like to step into this role, what I’ve learned, what surprised me and how things really work behind the scenes. The feedback was encouraging, and I think everyone walked away with a better understanding of not just the process but the people behind it.
Because this first tour was such a positive experience, I’m considering making it a monthly tradition, something small and meaningful for those who want to be more engaged. If you or someone you know would be interested in joining a future group of about 10 to 15 guests, please reach out to my office. We’d love to hear from you.
Thank you again to those who joined me last week. Your presence reminded me why I ran for office in the first place: to serve the people of House District 33 with honesty, accessibility and a listening ear. I’ll also be putting together a monthly newsletter to help keep constituents informed about what’s happening at the Capitol and in our district. If you’d like to receive it, just send my office an email with your contact information, and we’ll add you to the list.
It is an honor to represent you at the Capitol. If you have any questions, concerns or to sign up for our monthly newsletter, please do not hesitate to reach out. My email address is [email protected], or you can call my office at (405) 557-7304.
